CAN in Automation (CiA) is the international users’ and manufacturers’ group for the CAN network
Nuremberg, March 2019 – On the annual CiA General Assembly, the members re-elected the three members of the board: Uwe Koppe (Technical Director), Christian Schlegel (Business Director), and Holger Zeltwanger (Managing Director).
Besides the board-of-directors, the General Assembly elected the members of the CiA Technical Committee (TC) and of the CiA Business Committee (BC). Bosch, Emsa, Emtas, ESD Electronics, and HMS Networks are the elected members of the CiA Technical Committee. Additionally, the TC comprises representatives of the Interest Groups (IG) CANopen, CANopen FD, CAN layer-1/2, CiA profiles, security and safety as well as J1939 (commercial vehicles). The BC is build by representatives of the Marketing Groups Lift and CANopen FD as well as the elected members (Emtas, ESD Electronics, Janz Tec, Microcontrol, and Vector).
In the annual meeting also those companies having not paid their membership fee for 2018 were excluded. The proposed budget for 2019 was accepted. This year, CiA will exhibit at Bauma, Interlift, and SPS (all in Germany) as well as at Itap (Singapore).
CAN in Automation (CiA) is the international users’ and manufacturers’ group for the CAN network (Controller Area Network), internationally standardised in the ISO 11898 series. The non-profit association was established in 1992. The aim is to provide an unbiased platform for future developments of the CAN protocol and to promote the image of the CAN technology.
The CiA website and online CiA Product Guide are important sources of CAN knowledge. Since 2012, the CAN Newsletter Online has been available. CAN in Automation also provides services for non-members. These are publications, conferences, seminars, and testing of CANopen devices. Of course, CiA members benefit from lower prices.
The CiA test centre provides several services to assess the validity of CANopen devices. First of all, there is the CANopen conformance test tool. It implements the CiA 310 CANopen application layer conformance test plan. The tool is available free-of-charge for CiA members. It is also used for the CANopen conformance testing by the CiA test centre.
