Mumbai, February 2018 – Contributing towards the Green India initiatives, the members of Shivalaya Tower, a 25-storey Tower with 97 flats, started with 2 initiatives for power conservation and green movement. In the first phase the occupants of the complex changed all the lights to LED bulbs and now in the more ambitious second phase, they have successfully installed Solar Panels (Made in India) with capacity of 35 kW (108 solar panels) through Solgen Greentech LLP. This completed project was inaugurated on Feb 18th, 2018 by the local Corporator Mrs Asawari Patil. Total cost of installation of Solar Panels is approx INR 25 lakh. Earlier the society electricity bill was approx INR 12 lakh per annum, which was reduced to INR 9 lakh p.a., post installation of LED lights and further expected to reduce to INR 3 lakh p.a (a reduction by 75%) through installation of solar panels. This translates into savings of INR 1.6 crore over 27 years. OR INR 1.6 lakh per flat over 27 years.This initiative has been taken by many but still as a percentage of the nation, there is long way to go. Everyone needs to be encouraged to take this initiative as this will be beneficial to each individual, household, society, city, state and entire nation.About the project, Mr Sanjay Puria, Hon Joint Secretary said “This initiative is towards harnessing renewable energy for a sustainable future.” To this, Mr Rajesh Madhavan, Secretary of the society added, “Conserve Energy and Achieve Synergy”.An initiative worth emulating!
