Chennai, July 2019, In a major endorsement of its robust health, safety and environment management systems and practices, L and T Shipbuilding at Kattupalli, has been accorded the coveted Five-Star rating by the British Safety Council (BSC).
The five-star rating makes it the first and only Indian shipyard to achieve the feat and positions it amongst just three across the globe.
The award of a five-star grading is “an outstanding achievement” reflective of an organisation deeply committed to raising the benchmarks and continuous improvement of its health and safety practices and processes, while managing risks to workers’ health, safety and welfare'', BSC said, according to a release from L and T.
It said the shipyard achieved the rare distinction after it successfully underwent a best practice Occupational Health and Safety Audit conducted by the globally renowned auditors of BSC and demonstrated its above benchmark performance and commitment towards continual improvement of EHS processes.
The shipyard underwent a comprehensive evaluation of its occupational health and safety policies, processes, and practices.
The audit included documentation review, interviews with senior management, employees, and other key stakeholders coupled with sampling of operational activities, the release said. It even measured performance against key health and safety management best practice indicators and featured a detailed review of over 60 component elements.
